Black Wall Street 100th Anniversary Ceremony
May 31, 2021
On May 31, 2021, The Chattanooga Festival of Black Arts & Ideas: Juneteenth Independence Day will hold a solemn Candlelight Ceremony commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre – the deadliest and most destructive massacre in our country’s history.
This event is free and open to the public! We will gather on the lawn of Miller Park at 7:21 PM to commemorate the centennial with speakers, musicians, spoken word artists and prayer. In addition, there will be a display or 300 red flags in effigy of those who shed blood during the massacre. Candles will be provided.
In preparation for this local event we invite you to explore the links on the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission website, tulsa2021.org, to view historical documents, eyewitness accounts and more as together we seek to ensure that neither this tragedy nor the lessons learned from it are never forgotten.
