We joined the nationwide campaign led by singer Pharrell Williams to get CEOs and companies to step forward to publicly observe, honor and celebrate Juneteenth Independence Day as a paid holiday. Our goal is to get as many Chattanooga and Hamilton County business and corporations to sign the Juneteenth Pledge.
In 2020 our greatest accomplishment was receiving a city-wide proclamation in Chattanooga declaring June 19th as ‘Juneteenth Independence Day’. We worked over many years to make this day a government-recognized holiday in our area, as it represents a(n) historic triumph of the human spirit.
Juneteenth is celebrated as a day to remember, respect, and honor the lives of our wonderfully powerful and extraordinarily resilient ancestors. We commemorate this day far and wide so that we all may learn the full history of American freedom and heal together from the legacies of slavery, injustice, and oppression.
In 2019, our founder Ric Morris was honored with a Causeway "Changemaker of the Year" nomination. This award is reserved for those individuals dedicated to using their entrepreneurial minds for good by rolling up their sleeves and working tirelessly with their community to create the change they want to see in the world.
Our volunteers understand our mission and are beacons in our community. They know that to elevate our community, we must work together.
